A deficiency of vitamin C can lead to several health problems and diseases. Here are some notable ones:

  1. Gingivitis and Dental Problems: Insufficient vitamin C intake can result in gingivitis, an early-stage gum disease. Symptoms include easily bleeding gums, tenderness, swelling, and bad breath. Additionally, tooth enamel may weaken, increasing the risk of cavities.

  2. Iron Deficiency Anemia: Vitamin C aids in better iron absorption. Prolonged deficiency can lead to iron deficiency anemia, characterized by weakness, trouble concentrating, headaches, pale skin, brittle nails, and a desire to eat non-food items like dirt or ice.

  3. Skin Problems: Vitamin C plays a crucial role in maintaining healthy connective tissue. A lack of it may cause skin issues such as petechiae (blue or red spots on the skin) and purpura (purple patches or spots). Bruising may also occur more easily.

  4. Scurvy: One of the most severe diseases caused by vitamin C deficiency is scurvy. Although less common in developed countries, it can occur if vitamin C intake remains inadequate for at least 3 months. Symptoms include weakness, swollen arms and legs, bleeding gums, and the reopening of old wounds. If left untreated, scurvy can lead to death from bleeding or infection.

Remember to include vitamin C-rich foods in your diet to prevent these health issues!
